Winners of “The 6th Chinese University Journalism Award” made public

The Chinese University Journalism Award (CUJA) was launched by The Chinese University of Hong Kong Journalism and Communication Alumni Association in 2003, aiming to promote professional practices in journalism in Hong Kong through recognizing the contributions of distinguished journalists.

Winners of “The 6th Chinese University Journalism Award” were announced at a presentation ceremony officiated by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK on Nov 8. They include:

According to Lavender Cheung Wang-yim, chairperson of the organizing committee, winners this year included veterans as well as new reporters. They were judged simply by the professional standards and quality of reporting, regardless of their experience.

Richard Tsang Lap-ki, chairperson of the Chinese University Journalism and Communication Alumni Association said all 9 winners did tremendous research, investigation and analysis for their work, showing that they had a very strong news sense, a determined mind and an unquenchable thirst for truth that makes them dare to voice out unfairness in the society.

The year 2013 marks both the 10th anniversary of CUJA and the golden jubilee of CUHK. The organizing committee has organized a series of activities, including seminars and a roving exhibition.

The 6th Chinese University Journalism Award

Objective
To promote professional practices in journalism in Hong Kong through recognizing the contributions of distinguished journalists.

Eligibility
Eligible contestants should be serving or former journalists who have worked in any Hong Kong-based news media organization.

Judging Criteria
Outstanding journalistic performance in the following: distinguished reports, writing, commentaries, and TV/radio programs.

Rules
Each contestant can only submit one piece of work to each category, but he/she can use different pieces of work to participate in different categories.
Contestants must participate on individual basis. Group work will only be accepted if the contestant’s contribution is more than 50%. A piece of group work can be used only by one contestant to participate in one category.

Submissions must be published in print version of newspaper or magazine or broadcast in TV or radio in the two-year period from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2013. The Organizing Committee of the 6th Chinese University Journalism Award will consult the news media to ascertain the eligibility of a submission.

The content of the contesting pieces of work must be based on fact.

The power of final adjudication of the Rules rests with the Organizing Committee of the 6th Chinese University Journalism Award.

Method of Entry
Television entries must be recorded on CD-ROM discs (DVD or VCD). Radio entries must be recorded on CD-ROM discs.

The maximum limit for television or radio entries is one hour. The maximum limit for newspaper or magazine entries is 10,000 words/ Chinese characters (including text, figures and tables).

All submissions must be in either Chinese or English.

The deadline for entries is 31 July 2013 (postmark no later than 31 July 2013.) Entries must be sent in a sealed envelope with the Participation Form to Organizing Committee of the 6th CU Journalism Award, School of Journalism and Communication, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, New Territories

* Judges from TV and radio news organizations will adjudicate newspaper and magazine entries only; judges from the press will adjudicate TV and radio entries only.

Results
The organizer will not disclose the contents of the judges’ deliberations. The decisions of the judges are final and irrevocable. The result will be announced in the last quarter of 2013. An Award Presentation Ceremony will be held. Winners will be invited to attend the Ceremony, which will be officiated by Prof. Joseph Sung, the Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong,

Prizes
Grand Award and Certificate of Merit will be presented to winners of each group.
A cash prize of HK$5,000 and a trophy will be presented to the Grand Award winners.
A certificate will be awarded to the winners of Certificate of Merit.

第六屆中大新聞獎結果公佈

中大新聞與傳播學院校友會舉辦的第六屆「中大新聞獎」評選已經有結果。得獎名單如下：

「中大新聞獎」籌委會主席張宏艷表示：「今屆參賽作品數目，是歷來最多的，還有很多年青記者參賽。今屆九位得獎者之中，有經驗老到的資深記者，亦有入行謹三年的年青記者。有賴大家的積極參與，不論新人還是舊人，都可以憑著優秀的報道，獲得嘉許。」

中大新聞與傳播學院校友會主席曾立基指出：「今次九位得獎者參選的新聞故事都有一個共同特點，就是記者們下了很大工夫，搜集很多資料，作了很深入的分析而完成的。這需要很強的新聞觸覺、對社會不公義的事憤憤不平、及持有鍥而不捨的毅力才能做到。」

作為主禮及頒獎嘉賓的香港中文大學校長沈祖堯教授亦表示：「我經常在網誌和不同的場合鼓勵年青人勇於發掘問題，尋找答案，堅忍不拔，成為勇於承擔的人。這些特質，亦都是作為新聞工作者必須具備的條件。「中大新聞獎」的設立，正正可以對這群默默堅守新聞專業操守，努力維護香港新聞自由的人才予以肯定，同時推動業界進步、發展。」

「中大新聞獎」的設立是希望透過表彰優秀的新聞工作者，為業界樹立良好榜樣，提升香港新聞工作的專業水平。共有十個獎項，分為五個組別，各設大獎及優異獎：新聞報道組（報章／雜誌）、專題組（報章／雜誌）、新聞報道組（電視）、專題組（電視）、新聞報道／專題組（電台），今屆共有九位新聞工作者獲獎，其中一位連奪兩個大獎。

適逢今年中文大學五十周年，校友會特別舉辦一系列活動，包括「中大新聞獎」歷屆得獎作品展和一連四場的講座系列，慶祝金禧校慶。

第六屆中大新聞獎
The 6th Chinese University Journalism Award

目的
透過表彰優秀的新聞工作者，為業界樹立良好榜樣，提升香港新聞工作的專業水平。

參選資格
現職或曾在以香港為基地的傳媒機構任職的新聞工作者，均可參加。

評選準則
候選人在下列項目有出色表現：優秀的報道、寫作、訪問、評論或廣播（電視、電台）製作。

參選規則
每位參加者於每個組別只可提交一份作品。如參加多個組別，必須以不同作品參賽。
參加者只能以個人名義參賽，若作品屬多人協作，參加者的貢獻比例必須超過一半。每份屬多人協作的作品，只接受其中一位作者於一個組別參賽。
作品必須是在二零一一年七月一日至二零一三年六月三十日兩年內曾在報章或雜誌印刷版刊出的文章，或曾在電視或電台播出的節目。第六屆中大新聞獎籌備委員會將諮詢該新聞媒體以核實作品的參賽資格。
參賽作品內容必須真確。

第六屆中大新聞獎籌備委員會對參賽規則有最終解釋權，參加者不得異議。

參選方法
電視作品必須錄製在唯讀光碟(DVD或VCD)；電台作品必須錄製在唯讀光碟(CD)上。
電視及電台作品的時間上限為一小時，報章或雜誌文章的字數上限為一萬字(包括圖文及註釋)。
所有參選作品或資料須以中文或英文提交。

截止日期為二零一三年七月三十一日(以郵戳所示日期為準)。請將參加表格連同參選作品密封，在截止期限前寄到或送交：新界沙田香港中文大學新聞與傳播學院第六屆中大新聞獎籌委會收。

*來自電視和電台新聞機構的評判只評審報章和雜誌作品；來自報社的評判只評審電視和電台作品。

評審結果
主辦機構將不會透露評審內容。評判團之評定為最後決定，參加者不得異議。籌委會將於二零一三年底公佈得獎名單及舉行頒獎禮，得獎者將獲邀出席。頒獎禮將由香港中文大學校長沈祖堯教授主禮。

獎項
每個組別各設有大獎及優異獎。
每位大獎得主可獲獎金港幣五千元及紀念獎座。
每位優異獎得主可獲頒獎狀一張。
