After six years of remarkable leadership, Professor Clement So has stepped down from his responsibility as the Director of the School of Journalism and Communication. Succeeding Professor So as the new School Director, Professor Anthony Fung is set to lead the School to reach new heights.
To express a note of thanks to Professor So for his contributions, and to extend a warm welcome to Professor Fung for assuming directorship, the Alumni Association organized a special sharing session on September 10, 2011, which attracted the participation of nearly a hundred alumni and students. The event was a memorable one as it was joined by four former and present School Directors, who were invited to share with the alumni and students their experience and vision for the School. The changes of the School, which has developed by leaps and bounds over the past two decades, were also reviewed and fondly remembered. A counter selling popular best-sellers edited by the School was set up to offer discounts to the School’s alumni and students.
On that day, a video clip specially produced for the event by Professor Joseph Chan, a former School Director, was shown. Through the clip, the audience were able to reminisce about the various milestones reached by the School since the 1990s. Professor Chan hoped the School would take the opportunity of the implementation of 3-3-4 academic structure to reach new heights under Professor Fung’s leadership. Professor Paul Lee, another former School Director, reaffirmed the School’s directions in offering diversified academic programmes, and in running self-financing programmes to meet societal needs and to expand the School. Having reviewed bits and pieces of his six years as the School Director, Professor Clement So hoped the School would continue its unfailing efforts to uphold the core values of education. Professor Fung hoped that his research expertise in popular culture would lead the School towards a new direction in this era emphasizing creativity, and cultivate the future leaders of the communication industries.
The Alumni Association has also collected photos taken by the School’s alumni and students with Professor So, and showed a video clip of these photos during the event. The Chairman of the Alumni Association, Mr Richard Tsang, presented to Professor So an album and a CD containing all the collected photos as a token of appreciation for his contribution.
After the sharing session, the Alumni Association hosted a heart-warming dinner for the alumni to get together with the School Directors, former and present, as well as the School’s teaching staff, at the Clubhouse Restaurant, Chung Chi College Staff Club.
